In 1884, Louis Dean, Louis Gerlach and Henry Flak bought the Ward Brother's Cattle Outfit in 1884.[1] The purchase included water rights from Pyramid Lake to the Oregon border.

On May 27, 1892, the "Gerlach Live Stock Co." was incorporated in Stockton.[2]
