Nevada State Route 48 goes from I-80 near Lovelock to Highway 49 near Garrett Ranch.
Highway 48 passes through the former Sahwave Naval Gunnery Range.

- Nevada tourist highway map (1955?) shows the Black Rock Desert as a "Danger Area." The Sahwave is not named, but labelled as "Travel Restricted" and "Danger Area". Highway 48 through Vernon travels through the "Danger Area".
