Effie Mona Mack's 1936 book Nevada states that Camp Black was near Massacre Lake.[1] Mack states that the war department records indicate that there were a number of temporary camps with that name, but Nevada had only one camp at a time with that name.

Ruhlen states that the Camp Black near Massacre Lake was occupied in 1865.[2]
