In 1942, several residents were named as defendants in a lawsuit brought by the Federal Government to establish the Black Rock Desert Gunnery Range. Named in the suite are Samuel K. Johnstone, Walter A. Johnstone, M?nnie Johnstone, (Johnstone Spring?), Estate of George Sweeney, Edwin E. Van Riper, Ben Cassidy (Cassidy Mine?), Fred Vogel, R. R. Whittier, John Doe De Voe, Albert Comes, A. D. Ramel, Walter L. Lowe, G. R. Simpson, Dorthy M. L. Simpson, and Ed Thompson.[1]
