Nelson Mine is located in the Jackson Mountains Mining District at the top of Jackson Creek at 41° 18' 30" north 118° 25' 40" west.[1]

In Humboldt County 1905, the author traveled from Willow Creek Ranch up Trout Creek Canyon to the source of Jackson Creek and then down to the Lay Ranch. The next day, they traveled 2.5 miles down Jackson Creek to the Nelson Mine and then on to a second Lay Brothers Ranch. Copper was mined there, managed by W. M. Darling.[2]
