J. H. Heward is listed in the 1925 Washoe County Directory.
John H. Heward married Helen Smith in 1938. At the time, he was raising stock in Gerlach and represented the Gerlach district in the state assembly.[1]
Hellen Meaker Murphy Mapes's mother was a Heward. Hellen (b. 1923, d. 2010) lived in the Gerlach area as a child and in 1974, married Charles Mapes of the Mapes hotel fame.[2] John H. was Hellen's Brother-in-law[3]
